Big Sci-Fi fan and absolutely loved this movie. Visuals effects, audio soundtrack, story line, and acting from the main characters was top notch. Will definitely be on the lookout for more films from Jason Stone. Really don't know what the bad reviewers are going on about? Great movie with a cool ending

I liked the movie overall, the acting was believable, the primary male actor was a 10+ in acting ability, I just really hope he is not an actual smoker for real, he runs well, so I doubt it
The 'set' was very believable, I got a real impression of two teen age males living in low class (and white, yea there are plenty of poor whites in this country, despite not being represented much in the sympathy media strands), the places the filming was done were the kind of places poor kids would be found
I can see a script argument occurred here, 'Lets make them poor kids in gangs and involved in drug trafficking'!!! Countered with, "How about we just make them typical poor kids".
I liked that the viewer had to figure out stuff, like-- how are people being selected and why would it occur in this manner?--
The one thing that really brought the movie down was saying that the visitors pre- dated the big bang, there is NO way the scientists would know something like that, especially since no communication ever occurred, AND the visitors are clearly trying to increase their numbers, which implies a finite life span
I am a sucker for dystopian science fiction, and have enjoyed multiple waves of the genre's popularity through the last few decades. That said, given the current zeitgeist in the age of Trump and Brexit, it's probably time for a film to shine the warm light of hope on the younger generations' future. 'First Light" delivers.
First light is not without its darkness. Indeed, what would the dawning of a new day be without the darkness of night before it? Instead of culling the protagonist's brethren on her path to an uncertain future, this hero rises from a drab and hopeless suburban wasteland to breathe new life and hope into the downtrodden souls who surround her, attracted as moths are to a flame.
This is not your typical alien invasion, nor is it a template first contact story. The dystopia in this film is not some imagined future, but our very real present. If you want to gorge yourself on cheesy special effects and cheap scares, this is not your kind of movie. But if you want a story about humanity, love, compassion and hard choices, with a touch of hope, this film might just add some light to your day.
